The Drake Equation
Frank Drake's primary band — original songs, sharp arrangements, and some of the most accomplished players in the New England acoustic scene.
On fiddle, Kathleen Parks brings a decade of international touring with Twisted Pine, festival stages from Telluride to Rockygrass, and a solo turn with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. On mandolin, Dan Bui — also of Twisted Pine — is a Berklee graduate whose playing draws on bluegrass, jazz, and everything in between. Holding down the low end is Paul Dilley, a Boston fixture whose resume runs from Girls Guns and Glory to Beat Circus to bebop. Frank plays guitar and sings.
The band's debut recording, Our Time Together, is an all-instrumental album ranging from bluegrass-adjacent originals to jazz-inflected arrangements and latin-tinged compositions. Live, the band expands that palette to include Frank's original songs and well-chosen covers — capable of going deep into traditional bluegrass, swinging through the American songbook, or sitting comfortably in a listening room for an evening of something harder to categorize.
The Drake Equation plays house concerts, listening rooms, festivals, and private events.
